OSCAR PETERSON
Oscar Peterson was 82 years old when he died of kidney failure at his Mississauga, Ontario home on Dec. 23, 2007. KING JAMMY'S
Known to the world as King Jammy's, Lloyd James spent several years in Canada operating a sound system and small studio. Jammy's would eventually return to Jamaica in the late 70's, where the Prince became a King and rewrote the history of reggae music after an "apprenticeship" with King Tubby's. (more)
JAMES BROWN
Call him what you want, "The Godfather of Soul", "Mr. Dynamite", "The Hardest Working Man In Show Business", or my personal favourite, "Soul Brother # 1", James Brown (1933 - 2006) was the architect of modern popular music. (more)

Since his retirement, Jay-Z has stayed busier than many rappers at their prime: He has toured the world, released collaborative projects with R. Kelly and Linkin Park, appeared on a number of other artists' tracks, celebrated the 10-year anniversary of Reasonable Doubt with a performance at New York's Radio City Music Hall, and, most notably, became the president and CEO of Def Jam Recordings.
